Yeah, ok, so I’m a bit of a rock chick, but every time I hear that Bon Jovi song I think of us. Yep, you and me. Us business owners weren’t born to follow – we’re known to push boundaries, question the status quo and generally be hell-bent on achieving a little more than the average person.
You went into business to be different. You had a vision to do things ‘your way’. You thought you could do a better job than your boss at the time or you had a deep need to create something of your own…
This part of you is actually your biggest asset in your social media strategy.
Yet many business owners over the years have put all those fabulous qualities to one side when it comes to business decisions, and followed the crowd.
They sit on the fence, fearful that if they stand out from the crowd, they might fail.
It feels safe there.
So they blend in with the rest of their industry.
And wonder why they don’t get as many customers or sales as they’d like.
And then they’re worrying about staff, paying bills, growing the business – and they’re so (understandably) consumed by all of this, that they sit on the fence even more because doing anything outside the norm feels too risky.
Hey, don’t worry, I’ve been there!
But this is no longer the safety zone. Audiences are on social media looking for small and medium businesses that stand out from the increasingly massive crowd.
They’re looking for you.
As I said, your brand personality is your biggest social media marketing strategy. It’s actually your best asset. It’s your brand story.
As a business coach and a social media marketer – when we find a small business that wants to stand out from the crowd – we do a little dance – hell yeah!

Now, more than ever is the perfect time to stop sitting on the fence and use your incredible brand story that will stop your business from being the best-kept secret. You might not realise you even have a story – but believe me, you DO!
It’s time to wake up and realise the treasure you have right under our nose.

As small and medium businesses, we’ve never had such cost-effective marketing, ever. Hey, I recall paying 15k just on yellow pages, for goodness sake! For one ad! That one ad sat in a book for a whole year!
C’mon guys – your content on social media is there forever – multiple posts that work for you – even when you’re asleep. People search your industry on FaceBook and Instagram now and you need to be in the running. Otherwise, you’re giving great customers to your competition!
